In Easter 2024, A Little Relief held our very first community event at Bullfrog Park in Guelph.
The idea was simple: create a fun, welcoming day where families and neighbours could come together, meet one another and enjoy an outing without having to worry about the cost.
We wanted to provide an opportunity for families to get out, have some fun and make memories together, regardless of their financial circumstances. What started as an Easter gathering became the beginning of something much bigger for ALR—a commitment to creating accessible community events where everyone is welcome.
For us, community is about more than providing assistance when someone is struggling. It is also about creating opportunities for connection, belonging and joy—and making sure cost isn't a barrier to being part of them.
Our Canada Day 2024 celebration came together at the very last minute, but thanks to the incredible support of our community members, volunteers and sponsors, it became a day we will never forget.
The entire event was offered at no cost to families, with plenty of food, activities for the kids, games, prizes and opportunities for everyone to simply come together and enjoy the day.
This event was especially meaningful to A Little Relief because it gave us hope. We saw firsthand what can happen when a community comes together with a shared desire to help. People stepped forward, businesses contributed, volunteers pitched in, and in a very short amount of time, an idea became a wonderful celebration for local families.
It was also the beginning of some very important relationships for ALR. Our first Platinum Partners joined us through this event and have remained loyal supporters ever since. We also met many of the incredible volunteers who continue to give their time and support to A Little Relief today.
Canada Day 2024 showed us what community can truly look like—people helping people, each contributing what they can, and together creating something much bigger than any one of us could have created alone.
It was more than a celebration. It helped build the community around A Little Relief and showed us what was possible when people came together.
